Google Ads in Cyprus has two costs: what you pay Google per click, which varies from under a euro for many Greek local service terms to several euros for English property, finance and legal terms, and what you pay whoever runs the account. There is no official minimum budget, but below a few hundred euros a month the data is too thin to learn from. The number that matters is not the click price. It is what a lead costs you and what that lead is worth.
This post walks through the real components of Google Ads cost in Cyprus, what pushes click prices up and down, how to set a first budget, what a management fee should cover, and how to work out whether the whole thing pays.
The two costs, kept separate
Any honest conversation about Google Ads cost starts by separating the ad budget from the management fee.
Ad budget is what Google charges you, per click, out of a daily budget you set. It goes to Google. Nobody else touches it. You can see every cent of it in the account.
Management fee is what an agency, freelancer or Google Ads agency in Cyprus charges to build and run the campaigns. It should be quoted separately, in writing, and it should never be hidden inside the ad spend.
If a provider quotes you one number that mixes both, ask for the split. Some Cyprus providers quote a monthly package where you cannot see how much reaches Google. That makes the account impossible to judge.
What a click costs in Cyprus
Google sets click prices by auction. You bid against everyone else who wants the same search shown to the same person, and the price depends on how many advertisers compete and how much a customer is worth to them. That gives Cyprus a wide range.
Cheap clicks. Local trades and services searched in Greek: electricians, plumbers, cleaners, tutors, repairs, many clinic terms. Competition is thin, most local firms do not advertise, and clicks are often well under a euro.
Mid range. Restaurants, car hire, hotels, dentists, gyms, retail, most English local service terms. A euro or two per click is typical, rising in summer for tourism terms.
Expensive clicks. Property in Limassol and Paphos aimed at foreign buyers, forex and fintech, immigration and company formation, insurance, legal services in English. Several euros per click and more, because each customer is worth thousands and international firms compete for the same searches.
The single biggest lever on click price in Cyprus is language. The same service searched in Greek usually costs a fraction of what it costs in English, because fewer advertisers bother with Greek campaigns. That is a reason to run both, in separate campaigns, and to see which brings cheaper leads.
How to set a first budget
Work backwards from a lead, not forwards from a click.
- What is a customer worth? Take an average sale and multiply by how many times a customer buys. A dentist might be worth several hundred euros a year. A property buyer, many thousands.
- What share of leads become customers? Be honest. If you close one enquiry in four, a lead is worth a quarter of a customer.
- What can you pay for a lead and still profit? That is your target cost per lead. Write it down. It becomes the goal in the account.
- How many leads do you want a month? Multiply by the target cost per lead. That is a starting budget.
Then check it against reality. If the budget buys fewer than a few dozen clicks a week in your market, the account will not gather enough data to improve, and you should either raise the budget or start with fewer, tighter campaigns. If it buys hundreds, you can afford to test Greek and English, search and retargeting, and learn faster.
Where Cyprus budgets leak
Most wasted spend we find in the flight check comes from the same four settings.
Location. Accounts set to Greece and Cyprus, or to Cyprus with "people interested in" enabled, which shows ads to people in Athens researching a holiday. Set the locations you serve and the "presence" option.
Broad match. Google's default matches your keyword to loosely related searches. In a small market that means paying for job seekers, students and people looking for something else. Exact and phrase match with a maintained negative keyword list keeps the budget on buyers.
Mixed languages. One campaign with Greek and English keywords, English ads and a Greek landing page. Every mismatch lowers the quality score and raises the click price. Keep languages separate from keyword to page.
No conversion tracking. The account optimises for clicks because it has nothing else to optimise for. Set up conversion tracking before spending anything, including call tracking, because most Cyprus service leads arrive by phone.
What a management fee should cover
Fees in Cyprus come as a flat monthly amount, a percentage of spend, or a mix. The structure matters less than what you get for it. A fee should cover:
- Conversion tracking set up and tested before launch
- Keyword research in the languages you sell in
- Campaign build with ad groups by intent and language
- Ad copy and landing pages that match the search
- Weekly negative keyword and bid management
- Offline conversion import for leads that close by phone
- A monthly readout showing spend, leads, cost per lead and what changed
If you are paying a fee and receiving a report of clicks and impressions, you are paying for activity, not results. Ask for cost per lead by campaign. If the provider cannot produce it, the tracking is not there.
Google Ads versus Meta Ads in Cyprus
The question of budget often becomes a question of which platform. They do different jobs.
Google Ads reaches people who are searching for what you sell right now. A plumber in Larnaca, a car hire at Paphos airport, a lawyer for a specific matter in Nicosia. The intent is high and the leads close fast. It is the first choice when demand already exists.
Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) reach people who are not searching. They work for hospitality, property launches, clinics, retail and anything visual, and for retargeting people who visited your site. They create demand rather than catch it. Costs per click are usually lower, but the path to a lead is longer.
Most Cyprus businesses run both, with Google catching demand and Meta building it and retargeting. The split is decided by the numbers after the first two months, not by preference.
A worked example for a Nicosia clinic
A dental clinic in Nicosia wants implant enquiries. A patient is worth several thousand euros. The clinic closes roughly one enquiry in three. It decides it can pay a few hundred euros per enquiry and still profit.
The account is built in two campaigns: Greek implant terms and English implant terms, each with its own ads and its own landing page that answers price, process and time questions. Call tracking records phone enquiries. In the first month, Greek clicks come in far cheaper than English ones and bring most of the enquiries. Budget shifts towards Greek. English is kept for the expat and international patients, who are fewer but valuable. By month three, cost per enquiry is under the target and the clinic knows exactly what it pays for a patient.
Nothing in that example depends on a secret. It depends on tracking, separate languages, a landing page and someone reading the numbers monthly. See our Nicosia page for more on that market.
When not to run Google Ads
Google Ads are the wrong first move when nobody searches for your product (a new category needs Meta and content), when your site loads in five seconds on a phone (fix the website first, it is cheaper), when you cannot track leads (build tracking first), or when the budget cannot buy enough clicks to learn. In each case the money is better spent one stage earlier.
The short version
Google Ads in Cyprus cost what your industry and language make them cost, and the click price is not the point. Set a target cost per lead from what a customer is worth, build tracking before spending, keep Greek and English separate, use exact match with negatives, and judge the account on leads and cost per lead every month. Keep the management fee separate from the ad budget and make sure it buys a readout, not a report of clicks.
